Add a client

A client is one of your end customers. Everything Tidehawk tracks hangs off a client: their domains, the certificates found for those domains, their history and any alert rules written for them.

Before you start

Know at least one public hostname for the client. You do not need credentials or any access to their systems.

Add the client

Open Clients in the sidebar.
Select Add client. A panel slides in from the right.
Enter the Client name. This must be unique among your active clients.
Optionally pick an Industry from the list, and select Add notes (optional) for anything internal you want recorded against them.
Under Domains to scan, paste the client’s hostnames, one per line. This is optional, but adding them here starts discovery straight away.
Select Create & scan n domains, or Create client if you left the domain box empty.

What happens next

If you added domains, the panel switches to a progress view. It shows Discovering certificates… while the first scan runs, then names each certificate as it is found, then a final count. Skip → View client jumps to the client page without waiting.

If you added no domains, the panel says the client was created and offers View client → and Add another.

On the client page you get three tabs: Certificates, Domains and History. The metrics row above them shows certificate count, critical count and domain count.

Things that can stop the client being created

A domain you typed is not valid. Tidehawk checks each hostname against the real list of top-level domains, so example.con is caught before any scan is wasted. If every domain in the box is invalid the client is not created, the panel stays open, and it tells you which lines to fix, often suggesting the correction. If some are valid and some are not, the client is created with the valid ones and the rest are listed as skipped.

Two domains with different registrable domains. A new client is anchored to a single registrable domain, so acme.com and shop.acme.com can go on the same client but acme.co.uk cannot. The message names the conflicting hostname and tells you to add it as a new client.

A domain already tracked elsewhere. If one of the hostnames overlaps a domain another client already tracks, in either direction, nothing is created and the panel lists each conflict with the client that holds it.

The client name is already taken. Names must be unique among active clients.

You have reached your plan’s client limit. Tidehawk sends you to the billing page with a banner naming your plan, your current count and the limit. See client limits.

Editing a client later

Open the client and select Edit to change the name, industry or notes.
